Chennai:22.07.2018
Learn to respect judiciary, the Madras high court warned the I-T department after flaying it for filing an affidavit shorn of even minimum particulars in connection with a case pending before a magistrate court in Coimbatore.
Justice P N Prakash said, “The counter (filed by the I-T department) is shorn of even minimum particulars and this court strongly records its displeasure and the cavalier manner in which the counter has been filed. The department must learn to respect the judiciary. The commissioner of I-T is directed to take appropriate action against the officer who filed the counter.”
The issue pertains to search and seizure action conducted by the I-T department on the properties of Sukesh Chandrashekar, an undertrial prisoner lodged in Tihar central prison, for attempting to bribe the Election Commission for getting ‘Two Leaves’ symbol for the TTV Dinakaran faction.
During the search, high-end cars and motorbikes possessed by Sukesh were seized. Later, it came to light that the vehicles were purchased from Karthikeyan and S Balaji, who were dealers in second-hand luxury cars. TNN
