Sathyabama Institute holds 27th convocation

For around 3,000 students of Sathyabama Institute the weekend ended on a special note.

CHENNAI: For around 3,000 students of Sathyabama Institute the weekend ended on a special note. From being students, they became graduates when Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology held its 27th convocation on Sunday.

MP Poonia, Vice-Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) who was the chief guest, gave away the degrees and administered the oath to students. “We have reformed many of our curriculums and hope that students utilise the funds given by AICTE through our 30 revised programs,” said Poonia.

Of the total number of students who received their degrees, the majority were undergraduates. Besides them, 346 students received their postgraduate degree, while 85 received their doctorates. Among them were nearly 30 students who received gold medals.

Delivering the convocation report, institute Vice-Chancellor, Sundar Manoharan, said 30 students from Sathyabama had cleared NEET while more than 82 per cent of its students were employed in 214 companies through campus placements.

S Somanath, Director of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (ISRO) and Trilochan Mohapatra, Director-General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) were conferred with honorary doctorate degrees for their contribution in science and technology.
