Bar council prohibits 742 lawyers from practising

Chennai: More than 700 lawyers who did law after foundation degrees obtained through open university system cannot practice in courts, as the state bar councilhas issued them prohibitory orders.
The Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry issued orders to a total of 742 advocates, and made it clear that they could not practice law pending disposal of show cause notices to be issued against them. A communication issued by the council's secretary C Raja Kumar said a special committee of the council had passed a resolution to this effect at its meeting on November 9.
The decision was made, as the enrolment 742 advocates are against Rule 5 of the Legal Education Rules, 2008 and in the light of the order passed by the Madras high court on October 25. TNN
