JACTTO-GEO to launch indefinite strike from November 27

SALEM, OCTOBER 14, 2018 00:00 IST

The Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Organisations and Government Employees Organisations (JACTTO-GEO) has urged the State Government to take steps with immediate effect for holding negotiations with its representatives on the issues and demands raised by the government servants and the teachers.

The JACTTO-GEO warned that the entire strength of government staff and school teachers would launch an indefinite strike from November 27 if their demands were not met.

At the State-level preparatory meeting for the indefinite strike, held here on Saturday, M. Subramanian and K. Meenakshisundaram, state conveners of the JACTTO-GEO, told presspersons that the demands included scrapping of the contributory pension scheme and covering all those who joined the service after April 1, 2003 under the old pension scheme, rectification of pay anamolies, doing away with the special time scale and contract pay scales, provision of the 21-months pending salary difference, dropping the move to close down 5,000 government schools.

They said that during the indefinite strike launched by the JACTTO-GEO last year, the High Court intervened and directed the government to revise the pay scales. The government while revising the pay scales, did not sanction the 21-months pending money. This was in violation of the court direction.

They said that the statements of the government only implied that the Chief Minister has not been fully told about the demands. “If we were given an opportunity we will be able to convince the Chief Minister”, Mr. Meenakshisundaram said.
