The Villupuram special court that deals with anti-corruption cases on Wednesday sentenced a 53-year-old Tamil Nadu Electricity Board official to five years imprisonment with a fine in connection with a bribery case filed before nine years.

Kumar, a foreman with Arasanur TNEB office, had sought a bribe of ₹5,000 from Radhakrishnan, of Aasanur village near Ulundurpet, for shifting an overhead high-tension line from above his house.

Kumar made the petitioner run from pillar to post for nearly a month. On September 8, 2009, Radhakrishnan lodged a complaint with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption (DVAC) officials, who laid a trap and caught Kumar red-handed while taking the bribe.

Special Judge S Priya hearing the case on Wednesday sentenced Kumar to five years imprisonment and levied a fine of ₹6,000 on Kumar.
