Diwali traffic: Buses to skip Tambaram

Government buses departing from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) at Koyambedu to the southern and western districts will skip Tambaram and Perungalathur stops between November 3 and 5 to in view of Diwali. These buses will instead pick passengers from a temporary bus stand to be set up near Urapakkam.

The transport department said these buses will avoid the Maduruvoyal-Tambaram-Perungalathur route. “In order to avoid traffic congestion, the buses will reach Vandalur via Nazrathpet and Outer Ring Road,” an official release said.

The pick-up points of buses heading to other districts during the period have also been altered. Government buses plying towards Chidambaram, Cuddalore and Puducherry on East Coast Road (ECR) will depart from the MTC bus stop at KK Nagar. Vellore, Tirupathur and Dharmapuri-bound buses will leave from Poonamallee bus stop. Only buses heading to Vikravandi, Panruti and Tiruvannamalai would depart from Tambaram. All other buses will start from CMBT.
