From Saturday, suburban train commuters in Chennai can book mobile tickets when they are inside the railway station.
Southern Railway has launched QR code scanning facility for ‘UTS on mobile’ ticket booking. Commuters can go to the station from where they intend to start the journey and scan the QR code displayed at the station using the mobile application and avoid the queues.
Platform tickets can also be booked in this manner, an official release said. Earlier, commuters could not book mtickets at the station due to geo-fencing incorporated in the application, but now they will be able to do so.
“Almost 5% of all unreserved tickets are being booked on mobiles. We intend to take it to 10%. So this is one of the features which was brought in after feedback from passengers,” said Priamvada Viswanathan, principal chief commercial manager (PCCM), Southern Railway, on Friday.
