State announces 4% DA hike for employees

It will benefit nearly 18 lakh staff

Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday announced a 4% hike in Dearness Allowance to government officials and teachers with retrospective effect from January 1, 2017.
The Dearness Allowancehike will be applicable to employees of local bodies and educational institutions receiving government subsidy, teachers, revenue officials, Anganwadi and noon meal scheme workers, and pensioners, a release said.
As a result, salary will increase between Rs. 244 and Rs. 3,080, and pension will increase between Rs. 122 and Rs. 1,540.
The DA hike will reflect in the monthly salary from May, the release added. Nearly 18 lakh government employees and pensioners will benefit from the increase, the government said, adding that it would entail an additional expenditure of Rs. 986.77 crore annually.
