Jail clarifies on video of biryani being prepared

Authorities of the Central Prison in Puzhal have denied reports of prisoners cooking biryani inside the prison, after a video showing the same went viral on social media on Friday morning.
Prison officials said the video was not recent and that it was an old clip now being circulated to damage the reputation of the prison administration.
The video was taken during Ramzan and as per the Prison Manual, Muslim prisoners are allowed to prepare their food subject to certain conditions, the officials said. The food material was also brought from outside, they added. Muslim inmates were permitted to observe a fast and cook biryani inside the prison this year, they added. This is the second video that has been leaked from the prison in the last month. The earlier video showed remand prisoners enjoying life in the prison as if it were a resort.
