RTI reply misunderstood: Vijaya Baskar

There is no delay in establishing the All India Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Thoppur in Madurai, State Health Minister C. Vijaya Baskar said here on Friday.

Along with principal secretary J. Radhakrishnan, he would be meeting Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Tuesday, the Minister told reporters.

Preliminary work

The land measuring 200 acres in Thoppur belonged to the State health department. The Central government had allotted Rs. 15 crore to take up preliminary work such as soil testing and assessing the quality of land at the proposed site.

The Centre had estimated that building AIIMS could cost Rs. 1,264 crore and the estimates had been sent to the financial committee for approval.

Misinterpreted

The health secretary had received a detailed e-mail from Sanjay Roy, the director of Pradhan Manthri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, he said.

The information given under the Right to Information Act and circulated to the media on September 30 was misunderstood, the Minister claimed.
