Several law graduates ‘missing’ from MU’s convocation list

MUMBAI: Several law graduates from Mumbai University’s colleges have claimed their names are missing from the convocation list issued by the university last week. These students had failed some exams, but have cleared the papers following revaluation.

The convocation ceremony for the graduates from the 2018 batch is scheduled on January 11, but these students were allegedly told their names will be updated in next year’s list, to be issued in May.

The university had sent out a list of all graduating students to their respective colleges this year to get errors, if any, rectified. This was the first time the university had taken such a step as, most times, errors get detected after the convocation certificates are printed and distributed. However, some of the law students were shocked to see their names missing.

One of the students from the Government Law College said he had cleared his ninth semester after seeking revaluation of a paper. “University officials said since I had cleared my papers later, I would get the convocation certificate in May. I have already started working and my office has asked me to submit my degree certificate soon,” said a student,

Sachin Pawar, president of Law Students’ Council, who has written to the vice-chancellor regarding the issue, said, “The university told the students that they have ATKTs (allowed to keep term) and, therefore, their names are not on the convocation list. Students who have already got their ‘sanads’ from the Bar Council of Maharashtra will have to waste a lot of time and energy to get their certificates. Degree certificate copies must be mandatorily attached to validate the sanad.”
