JAIPUR: Students passing out after completing MBBS from government medical colleges will have to work for at least two years in government hospitals.
The medical education department issued letter to all the medical colleges of the state, undergraduate (UG) counselling board of directorate of medical education, Central Board of Secondary Education and Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS) college informing about the decision.
The letter issued has apprised the medical colleges that state government has made a bond for UG courses compulsory in government state medical colleges for all India and state quota students.
"It has been decided by the state government that the students selected for the UG course in MBBS will have to fill a bond for commitment to service the state government for 2 years. If they break the bond, they will have to pay Rs 5 lakh as penalty," wrote S P Singh, joint director medical education department, in the letter.
As per the directions, the new decision would be effective from the session 2015 and onwards.
According to health department sources, the government-run hospitals are facing shortage of doctors. Now, the government has decided to make it mandatory for doctors to work for at least a stipulated time for joining government services and for studying in medical colleges. Similar bond of Rs 25 lakh is mandatory for in-service doctors taking admission in one-year certificate course.
Through bonds, the health department is making efforts to retain doctors for longer period in government services so that the patients coming to government hospitals will be benefitted.
