The Madras High Court Bench here has criticised a private engineering college at Srivaikundam in Tuticorin district for preventing a third-year mechanical engineering student from attending classes without suspending him or issuing a charge memo after he was accused of damaging college property following a suicide bid by a girl student.
Allowing a writ petition filed by the student seeking permission to write his sixth semester examinations, Justices S. Manikumar and G. Chockalingam said that it was a fit case to impose cost on the educational institution.
However, the judges deferred from passing such an order since the student had to pursue his education in the same college for at least one more year.
