720 more engineering seats in Anna University this year

For the first time, 3 campuses to offer UG courses

With the State government deciding to commence undergraduate engineering programmes in Anna University’s three regional campuses in Coimbatore, Madurai and Tirunelveli, the total number of seats available for engineering counselling this academic year would go up by 720.

Four undergraduate engineering programmes would commence in each of the three campuses from 2018-19 and 60 students would be admitted in each of the streams in every regional campus, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said in a statement on Thursday.

Earlier, the three regional campuses of the university were offering only postgraduate engineering programmes.

UG courses

Anna University has four campuses in Chennai and 13 university constituent colleges offering undergraduate and postgraduate engineering programmes.

But the campuses in Coimbatore, Madurai and Tirunelveli have not been offering undergraduate programmes.

The State government had decided to commence undergraduate programmes in these campuses following representations received from various quarters and it would come to the aid of students from the economically weaker section, the statement added.
