Academic council members to boycott TU’s convocation

Vellore: Two of the academic council members of Thiruvalluvar University (TU) and the members of Association of University Teachers (AUT) have decided to boycott the 13th convocation of the university scheduled to be held on Friday to register their protest against the ‘widespread corruption and mismanagement – from appointment of staff to evaluation of answer scripts’.
The members of the zone 3 of the AUT have staged hunger protest and demonstrations and had also submitted petitions to governor of Tamil Nadu Banwarilal Purohit, who is the chancellor of the universities, during his recent visit to Vellore district.
“The authorities have failed to probe into the mismanagement of the officials in the university. So, we have decided to boycott the convocation to register our protest for failing to take corrective measures,” K Anthony Baskaran, associate professor of Sacred Hearts College told TOI.

Chennai: Thirty-five days after he suffered sensational arrest at the hands of vigilance personnel, suspended vice-chancellor of Bharathiyar University A Ganapathy is set to walk out of jail, as the Madras high court granted him conditional bail on Thursday. Ganapathy was arrested on February 3, 2018, for accepting a bribe of ₹30 lakh from T Suresh, an assistant professor-aspirant on probation. TNN
Probe sought into BU irregularities
Trichy: PMK founder S Ramadoss has sought an inquiry into alleged irregularities in the selection of registrar at the Bharathidasan University. This is following reports in media that the selection panel favoured a particular candidate. He also demanded resignation of higher education secretary Sunil Paliwal as the appointment was made under his supervision. TNN
