Puducherry: A team from CBI, Chennai, undertook a surprise search at the Mahatma Gandhi postgraduate institute of dental sciences, a Puducherry government institution, on Tuesday and seized several documents related to admission of students, recruitment of faculty members and service records of a top official in the college following complaints of malpractices.
The six-member team, which searched the college, scrutinised documents related to admission of students to postgraduate programmes since 2010-11 academic year and reportedly seized a few documents for detailed investigations. They also scrutinised documents related to recruitment of teaching and non-teaching faculty members since 2002.
“They (CBI team members) came on Tuesday and made a few inquiries with regard to recruitment of faculty members in the college. We extended complete cooperation to them. It is nothing unusual and is a part of routine inquiries of the investigation agency,” said college dean V Ramesh.
A spokesperson of a parents-students’ association said several forums and individuals had submitted complaints to the investigation agency alleging malpractices in the college. There are widespread allegations of nexus between the college officials and a particular coaching centre in Bengaluru as 23 students from the centre have claimed top ranks in the entrance examinations hosted by the college for admission to postgraduate programmes between 2010 and 2016.
