A final year MBBS student at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna was rusticated for entering the girls' hostel in a drunken state, semi-naked.

The medical student, hailing from Kerala, vacated his hostel room and left for his home on March 1.

According to sources, the incident took place during Holi when some medicos, staying in the hostel, were enjoying the festival of colours on the college campus. Suddenly, the errant medical student, allegedly drunk, rushed to the girls' hostel. While entering the girls' hostel (also called nursing hostel), his lungi came off, thereby causing huge embarrassment to the female medicos.

The security guard manning the girls' hostel caught hold of the medico and thwarted his bid to enter the prohibited zone.

Initially, the AIIMS administration tried to hush up the matter as it would bring a bad name to the prestigious institution. But when the girls threatened that they would lodge a police case if no action was taken against the accused, the administration rusticated him for three years.

Dry state

"We have rusticated the student for three years. But to be fair to him, we will give him a chance to be heard as he is a final year student and his career is at stake. The parents of the medico have been informed about the incident and the consequent punitive action," said AIIMS-Patna director Dr P K Singh.

Later, no police case was lodged. In Bihar, which was declared a dry state in April 2016, anyone found drunk could face imprisonment of up to 10 years.
