BSNL has started upgrading its core equipment at Saibaba Colony telephone exchange
The subscribers of mobile networks of almost all telecom operators are experiencing poor connectivity or no connectivity for the last few days in and around Coimbatore.
Sudden surge in portability of mobile connections from Aircel to the existing public sector BSNL and the private operators was the reason cited by a few operators. A BSNL official told The Hindu that as on date 4,01,500 mobile subscribers ported their connections from Aircel to BSNL over the last one fortnight. Of this, over 90,000 Aircel subscribers switched over to BSNL from Erode secondary switching area (SSA) and it is 83,000 in Coimbatore SSA.
A majority of the Aircel customers were from rural areas, as it had very good coverage in rural areas than in the cities was the reason for surge portability from rural areas, an official said. The network problem currently experienced by the customers of BSNL would be solved before the end of March.
BSNL started upgrading its core equipment at the Saibaba Colony telephone exchange to take on the sudden surge and capacity addition well before the Aircel became bankrupt. The public sector major is equipping technically to welcome 4G in the near future. These works would be over by the month-end. However, the connectivity issues with the other operators, hiring private towers in rural and urban areas and increasing capacities in towers in rural areas would take place in the first week of April.
However, the connectivity problem exists from one operator to another and not within the parent network. This problem, too, would be solved, as the BSNL officials are in touch with the private operators, the official added. However, the private operators remain tightlipped over the network issue. Even subscribers with operators seen as giants with pan India presence are facing poor data connectivity, voice call drop and hanging issues.
