MBBS: distribution of forms begins in Salem

The last date to get the forms is June 18

The opening day of the distribution of application forms for admission to medical and dental colleges in the state at the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College here on Monday evoked good response.

A total of 1,547 candidates collected the applications for both government and self-financing medical and dental colleges on the opening day.

With the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) being the only criterion for admission, candidates and their parents from near and far started arriving at the college premises much before the counters were opened.

Long queues were witnessed in front of the counters, when they were opened at the scheduled time of 10 a.m.

P. Kanagaraj, Dean, inaugurated the distribution work by handing over the application forms to a first few candidates.

The cost of the application forms for government colleges and government quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges is Rs. 500.

For the management quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges, the cost of application is Rs. 1,000.

The application forms for the SC and ST candidates are issued free of cost on production of the attested photo copies of the community certificates for government colleges and government quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges.

Dr. Kanagaraj told The Hindu that 925 candidates belonging to general category and 245 candidates belonging to the SC and ST received the application forms on the opening day.

Besides, 377 candidates collected the application forms for management quota seats in self-financing medical and dental colleges by remitting a demand draft of Rs. 1,000.

Dr. Kanagaraj said that the college has adequate stock of applications. It received about 2,250 applications in the first phase, of which more than 50 % were issued to the candidates on the opening day. The directorate has assured to provide adequate applications on daily basis, he said.

The last date of issue of application form is June 18.
