PM to students: Hard work will pay even if marks don’t
They Ask Modi If He Is Prepared For ‘2019 Exam’

New Delhi: Asked about preparations for his “board” exams — the 2019 Lok Sabha polls — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said if a student does his work, the results will follow even if marks are not always satisfactory. He was interacting with students from across the country at “Pariksha Par Charcha”, held at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium to discuss how to make exams stress-free.

In a rare interaction of a PM with students preparing for exams, Modi said self-confidence comes by challenging oneself and students should think of bettering themselves and not be put down by an adverse result, recalling an election in Gujarat where only four Jana Sangh candidates retained their deposits.

There was a spontaneous interaction between the PM and 10 crore people across the nation, including students, parents and teachers. “Elections come and go, they are like byproducts,” the PM said, noting that he looked for the best wishes of “125 crore Indians”.

Nearly 3,000 students at the stadium, and many more through video-conferencing, joined the interactive session asking questions about subjects like stress and parental pressure to yoga and how to deal with the competition. The interaction was close on the heels of the release of “Exam Warriors” penned by the PM.

Modi took 10 questions from different locations and institutions, including IITs. Starting the interaction, he said he was a pupil and they (students) are examiners for the day, adding, “Don’t think of me as PM but as a friend. You can give me marks out of 10 later.” Later when the PM asked how he had done, students shouted in unison, “10”.

The highlight of the interaction was a Class XI student asking how he was preparing for the next Lok Sabha elections. “Are you prepared for your exam or are you a bit nervous?” asked the student. The PM responded: “If I was your teacher, I would’ve guided you to take up journalism — kyun ki aise lapet ke sawaaljournalists hi puchte hain.” He added, “If you go by marks, you may not achieve what we really want ... I work on the same principle in politics. All my time, energy and strength and mental capability, all is spent on 125 crore Indians.” “Our situation is such that you have exams once in a year, we have exams 24 hours in a day,” Modi said.

The interaction became a raging hit on social media. As the No 1 trend, conversations on #ParikshaPeCharcha got more than 2.5 billion impressions on Twitter.

Schoolgirl thrilled as PM picks her query

Class XII student Yukti Bhate, who dreams of joining the Army one day, is on cloud nine after the PM picked her question during his ‘Pariksha Pe Charcha’ interaction on Friday. The high scorer wanted to know how to overcome competition and the stress of getting good marks. “Identify the power in yourself,” the PM said as Yukti from Aditya Vidya Vihar school in MP listened. “Why get into competition with your friends?,” he asked. Yukti said her confidence has shot up. TNN
