Railways announces diversion of trains

The Railways has announced diversion of two long distance weekly trains via Namakkal from next month.
According to Salem Railway Division sources, the train Nos. 12689 / 12690 Chennai Egmore – Nagercoil – Chennai Egmore express trains and Nos. 16733 / 16734 Rameswaram – Okha – Rameswaram express trains will be diverted via Karur – Namakkal – Salem.
While the Chennai Egmore – Nagercoil weekly express will be diverted via Namakkal from March 9 (departing from Namakkal at 1.10 a.m.), the Nagercoil – Chennai Egmore will be diverted from March 11 (departing from Namakkal at 4.52 a.m.). The
The Okha – Rameswaram express will be diverted from March 6 (departing from Namakkal at 12.25 p.m.), and the Rameswaram – Okha express from March 9 (departing from Namakkal at 4.10 a.m.), the railway sources said.
While welcoming the decision to divert the trains via Namakkal, K. Murugan, member of the Mohanur Rail Commuters Welfare Association, urged the Southern Railway to divert the other trains such as Mayiladuthurai – Mysore and Tuticorin – Mysore, both regular trains at present being operated via the circuitous Erode route, through Namakkal.
