Chennai: Officials from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-corruption (DVAC) conducted a preliminary inquiry at Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (TNSTC) office, Villupuram on Thursday in connection with a pending case of alleged funds misappropriation. The inspection follows a complaint that there was a duplication attempt by authorities while submitting a proposal to obtain terminal benefits of retired employees.
There were minor errors while submitting the details of intended beneficiaries in the last minute, said state transport secretary PWC Davidar. “However, it was set right by officials right away,” he said rejecting claims from transport workers’ unions that funds worth ₹20crore were swindled by authorities by creating fake records.
A seven-member team led by deputy superintendent of police Devanathan carried out preliminary investigations and TNSTC Villupuram staff had submitted documents sought by the DVAC team. The unions claimed that the government was trying to push the scam under the carpet as senior officials from the corporation were allegedly involved in this. DVAC officials said it was not a raid.
