The Pondicherry University took it up with CBSE and the UGC NET examination conducting agency.
The name of the Pondicherry University was not on the application form issued by CBSE for the University Grants Commission's (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) 2018.
Puducherry: The name of the Pondicherry University was not on the application form issued by CBSE for the University Grants Commission's (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) 2018. Following the news about this lapse appearing in the Deccan Chronicle of March 15,the Pondicherry University took it up with CBSE and the UGC NET examination conducting agency.
The omission of Pondicherry University from the UGC - NET exam application process was brought to their attention and immediate inclusion was requested, said K Mahesh, Assistant Registrar (Public Relations) of the University.
The Vice Chancellor of the University Gurmeet Singh and the Registrar Tharanikkarasu took it up with the officials of CBSE and explained the mistake that had occurred in the name of the prestigious Pondicherry University being excluded from the application process. Following their appeal, the name was included in the list, the official said.
"Thousands of students complete their post-graduation every year from our University and its affiliated colleges. Many of them apply and appear for the UGC - NET exam. Hence CBSE was requested to rectify this mistake immediately and include the name of Pondicherry University in the application process to enable the students post graduated from Pondicherry University to apply for the UGC NET exam smoothly without any hassle or confusion. And CBSE has officially communicated to university that the name had now been included in the list", said Mr Mahesh.
An official communication from CBSE said that the University name was there in the system but due to the use of some incorrect code it was not displayed. However, the correction has been done and the name of the university is there in the list now.
Students were supposed to enter the region from where they have completed or were doing PG in the second step in the online application process for University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC Net), which appeared on the net on March 6. DC had reported that when the students select the Union Territory as the region, the name of Pondicherry University was missing in the prescribed column from which they could only select the option 'others' and had to manually write the name of the university in a column below, which is what created the confusion among the students.
