The city police on Wednesday arrested two more employees of Raj Bhavan in connection with the defrauding of the governor’s office of ₹10 crore over the past five years.
“Shivakumar, assistant accounts officer, and Kuppusamy, accounts officer, were held as they failed to check the fake bills submitted by the furniture supplier before clearing them,” said a senior police officer.
The case pertains to defrauding by furniture supplier Mohammed Younis, who had colluded with Raj Bhavan staffers and submitted fake bills for furniture he didn’t supply, systemically cheating Raj Bhavan of ₹10 crore.
In April, S Rajesh, an office assistant, and Justin Rajesh, a conservancy staff member of the Raj Bhavan, were arrested in connection with the case.
Raj Bhavan got the first whiff of the fraud after Purohit ordered a detailed investigation based on complaints he received soon after he assumed office late last year.
Deputy secretary to the governor and comptroller Sowri Rajan had lodged a complaint with the Guindy police about the embezzlement.
