CHENNAI: Greater Chennai Corporation officials on Tuesday sealed a commercial building at KK Nagar that housed several shops, including Hotel Saravana Bhavan, for building violations.
An official said the action followed a litigation involving the occupants and the landlord. The litigation revealed building violations. "There was a case in the court over disputes between the occupants and landlord. Meanwhile, the unauthorised construction in portion of the building also came to light," an official said.

The landlord committed building violations by adding an additional floor to the structure located in the First Sector of First Street near KK Nagar near the bus terminus. The structure was sealed after rectifications to clear the violations had not been taken.

Shopkeepers in the building said officials began the sealing process at 8.30am and finished it in half hour. Gani, a shopkeeper in the building, said all the shops, including the hotel, had been functioning normally till 8.30am.
