2 flyers from SE Asia caught with gold worth ₹11.3 lakh

Chennai: Customs sleuths seized gold worth ₹11.3lakh from two passengers, inlcuding a woman, who arrived from Malaysia and Singapore at the city airport.

The seizures took place on Friday and Monday. Two gold chains weighing a total 188 grams and valued at ₹5.5lakh were seized from Muthu Natchiyar, 44, who arrived from Singapore on Monday. She had hidden the jewellery in her inner wear.

In another incident on Friday, two gold cutbits weighing 199 grams and valued at ₹5.8lakh were seized from Mohamed Rabeek, 24, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur. The gold bits were concealed using black adhesive tapes and were kept in an inner pocket on his trouser, said a press release
