Bus passengers overpower knife-wielding gang that tried to rob them in Chennai

CHENNAI: A five-member gang wielding knife boarded an omnibus near Koyambedu in Chennai on Wednesday night and tried to rob passengers. However, the passengersoverpowered the robbers and caught one of them while others escaped.
The incident happened at omnibus operator KPN Travels' stand near Koyambedu. The bus was about to leave for Coimbatore when the gang boarded the vehicle.
One of the gang members threatened the driver at knifepoint and asked him to drive the bus while the others warned the passengers not to raise an alarm.
There were around 40 passengers in the bus. They attacked the robbers. Four of the robbers managed to escape while the man who threatened the driver at knifepoint was caught and handed over to police.
The man has been identified as Dinesh of Tiruvallur. Dinesh was involved in several cases including robbery, police said.
