Students’ protest against Tasmac outlets in Medavakkam successful

One shop has been asked to shut down immediately

Residents and students of the government school at Sunnambu Kolathur, near Medavakkam, staged a protest at the school on the Sunnambu Kolathur Main Road against a newly-built Tasmac shop in the residential area and urged the State government to shift it.
Various community groups and Sunnambu Kolathur residential associations joined hands with them. Around 600 students of the school took part.
Residents said that after three hours of protest, the authorities agreed to their demands. The closure of the shop opposite the school was ordered immediately and that of another one near a temple would be also ensured, said officials.
A resident said they would continue the protest till the shop was removed.
