Parents Stage Protest, Beat Him Up
A schoolteacher was arrested
on Thursday for sexually harassing girl students at Kurumbapalayam
village near Avinashi in Tirupur. The man had allegedly shown them porn
videos on his mobile phone.
J Krishnamoorthy, 42, a native of
Kattapettu near Kotagiri in Nilgiris district, had been working as a
teacher at the Panchayat Union middle school for the last nine months.
The teacher allegedly targeted an eight-year-old girl studying in Class III, and is said to have often harassed the other girls, too.
Some of the girls had narrated the incident to their parents, but they did not take up the issue with the concerned authorities.
The victim told her mother on Wednesday evening and the parents of the girl and villagers of A Kurumbapalayam had gone to the school on Thursday and staged a protest at the school. They also beat up the teacher and informed the police.
Inspector E Nirmala and team from the all woman police station arrested him. A team of police and childline staff, meanwhile, conducted inquiry with a few girl students.
“The girls told us that the teacher often followed them when they had gone to the restroom and showed porn videos to the students using his mobile phones. We seized the mobile phone from the teacher,“ said inspector Nirmala.
Police registered a case under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act based on a complaint registered by the mother of the victim, and arrested him on Thursday afternoon.
He was produced before a judicial magistrate in Avinashi and later he was remanded to judicial custody.Further investigation is on.
