Medical students in Puducherry , who wanted to pursue their post-graduate degree from deemed universities, are still helpless as the fee structure is yet to be framed in the Union territory .On Wednesday , advocate V B R Menon filed a contempt petition regarding inaction by Centac in fixing the fee structure, and said: “It is a highly disappointing experience for students who have secured merit seats. They are helpless as they are unable to pay the exorbitant fee.“
The first bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Bhavani Subbaroyan has asked authorities to sub mit their reply by July 3. As directed by the high court, 27 students had deposited `10 lakh and approached respective colleges in Puducherry to attend classes.
However, the colleges did not admit the students stating that there were no vacancies.
This is in contradiction to the directions of the court, he said, adding: “A glance at the list of the students admitted as notified by the Centac and the actual list of students admitted shows that they had admitted students with lower NEET scores.“
He wanted the medical colleges and Centac to be punished for wilful disobedience of the interim order of the high court.
