SINGAPORE: Three hundred people have been caught for consuming alcohol during prohibited timings

SINGAPORE: Three hundred people have been caught for consuming alcohol during prohibited timings since temporary measures to maintain public order in Little India came into effect on Apr 1 this year, police said on Thursday (Dec 4).
Four establishments were also found to have committed liquor licensing breaches after the Public Order (Additional Temporary Measures) Act kicked in.
"Police have also worked with the relevant government agencies to install 43 cameras and 42 'lighting sites' to further enhance the security of Little India," Rochor NPC Commanding Officer Ho See Ying said to reporters after a site visit at Little India.
These lighting sites are mostly congregation areas, back alleys and fields. More than 100 lamp posts have been installed at the sites. Temporary spotlights powered by generators, which were installed after the Little India riot, will be removed before the end of the year.
Sheltered bus terminals have also been built at Tekka Lane and Hampshire Road. These allow workers to board and alight from buses that ferry them from Little India to their dormitories.
The measures had been introduced in the wake of the Dec 8, 2013 Little India riot. The incident saw approximately 400 people running riot after a fatal accident involving a bus and a foreign worker at Racecourse Road. A Committee of Inquiry had found that alcohol and intoxication had played a factor in the night's events.
