Tainted doc did MBBS in 14yrs, with 17.4% marks

Lucknow: It took 10 years extra for admission racket accused Dr K P Singh to complete his four-and-half-year MBBS course. As per marksheets available at King George's Medical University, the doctor took more than one attempt to clear 10 papers out of 13. He could clear all the papers in 35 attempts.

Dr K P Singh completed his intermediate with second division in the year 1979 from Mangal Prasad Intercollege of Bampurin, Allahabad and got admission to the MBBS course at King George's Medical University in 1980 under the ST/SC quota.

As per marksheets available with KGMU, it was in 1994 that he finally cleared MBBS with 52.4 % marks.

Dr Singh, a senior faculty member of microbiology department in KGMU, scored mere 1% in Anatomy and 2% in Physiology in 1981. It took him another two years to pass the first professional MBBS exam.

In 1985, he again scored 6% in Forensic Medicine, 7% in Pharmacology and Therapeutics and only 8% in Social and preventive medicine. It took him six years to clear the three papers of second professional MBBS exam.

For the final professional MBBS exam, it took him another three years to clear four papers of Medicine, Surgery, Opthalmology and Obstetrics and Gynaecology subjects.

Dr KP Singh's index was 17.4% after 14 years, stated the marksheet.

"Interestingly, the doctor accused in the multi-million rupee admission racket did his internship with the prestigious Hindu Rao hospital in New Delhi in 1995 and cleared his MD in the year 2000," said Chowk SHO Indra Prakash Singh. Dr K P Singh joined KGMU as faculty member in 2003.
