Almost a dozen students who had submitted original marksheets and certificates to the Darbhanga College of Engineering (DCE) at the time of their admission were returned forged documents by the institute on Wednesday .
After they received “fake certificates“, the students locked college principal A K Thakur and teachers in their chambers, and lodged a complaint with Darbhanga DM Dr Chandrashekhar Singh. The DM has ordered an investigation into the matter by a twomember committee.
The students, of 2014 batch, had submitted their matric, intermediate and migration certificates to college authorities for registration with the Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU). The college was to return the original stamped documents but it misplaced them and gave students forged certificates. Thakur admitted that original certificates of some students got lost and the staff returned them forged documents. “When forged marksheets were issued to about 10 students, they started an agitation and locked the principal and other teachers in their chambers,“ said an official, adding that the students relented only after the DM intervened.
The DM said the administration should have lodged an FIR and tried to procure duplicate of the documents from the respective examination boards. “Instead of following the rules, they issued forged documents. It is unbecoming of a prestigious institute like DCE. I will take action, that may include lodging an FIR against the college administration, if the students' allegations are found true,“ Singh said.
