A recently retired professor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) has dragged the university to court, seeking to cancel the `fraudulent' recruitment of 49 assistant professors pursuant to a job notification dated November 26, 2016.The first bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar, before which the PIL filed by Dr P I Ganesan, who was a retired director of Centre for Animal Health Studies at Madavaram campus of TANUVAS, came up for hearing on Monday , issued notice to chairman of selection committee, besides viceand registrar of TANUVAS, and animal husband secretary of the state government. The case has now been posted to June 9.
The petitioner has sought declaration of the entire selection process for recruit ment of 49 posts of assistant professors in various departments of university , as illegal, unconstitutional, null and void.
According to the impugned advertisement, there will be 20 marks for interview, while 30 marks will be allotted for assessment of domain knowledge and teaching skills of the applicant.Fifteen marks were earmarked for awards medals, professional activities (8), fellowship, experience (5), extra-curricular activities (2). The remaining 15 marks were earmarked for teaching skills -oral (10) and written communication skills (5).
Therefore, along with the interview marks of 20, a total of 35 marks were entrusted with the selection committee headed by the vice-chancellor. In his petition, Dr Ganesan said having 35 marks for interview would not ensure transparent recruitment, and instead would lead to nepotism. It is also violative of a Supreme Court judgment, he said, adding the apex court had many times ordered that maximum marks for interview should not exceed 15%.
Dr Ganesan said though he himself had been nominated as a member of the selection committee for the conduct of interview, he realised the entire selection process was bogus. He said the selection was completed in his absence the list of selected candidates finalised arbitrarily.
