Forums allege fraud in MBBS admissions at Jipmer

Twenty-nine of the top 62 candidates, who were shortlisted for provisional admission into MBBS course for the 2019 session in Jipmer under Puducherry residents’ quota, had not appeared for National eligibility cum entrance test (Neet) as natives of Puducherry triggering speculation that candidates from other states have sought admission under Puducherry residents’ quota in the prestigious institution.
A few students-parentsteachers’ forums have made this startling revelation after comparing the list of candidates shortlisted for provisional admission with the list of Puducherry native candidates who appeared for Neet.
“We fear that the 29 candidates illegally claimed that they are residents of Puducherry while applying to Jipmer for MBBS. They do not feature in the list of Puducherry candidates who appeared for Neet this year. All the medical aspirants invariably appear for Neet. We suspect that these candidates might have illegally obtained dual nativity – one to apply for admission in Jipmer as Puducherry residents and the other to take Neet from their hometowns to seek admission in colleges in their respective states,” said Pondicherry State Students’ and Parents’ Welfare Association president V Balasubramanian.
The association has submitted a detailed memorandum to the Jipmer director and dean furnishing the first list of students from other states, who they suspect has sought admission under Puducherry residents’ quota.
Jipmer dean R P Swaminathan said the institute has been adopting fool-proof admission procedure to eliminate all possible malpractices. “The institute has published only the provisional list of students for admission. The institute will permit the candidates to attend the counselling only after verifying all credentials and ensuring that their certificates are valid,” he said. Jipmer has 200 MBBS seats, of which 55 are reserved for Puducherry residents.
