Debarring students wearing customized T-shirts for two exams is among the stringent measures. The authorities have been flummoxed by the innovative cheating ways of students like having hi-tech copying devices fitted into the T-shirt. These proposals have been approved by the syndicate at its recent meeting.
According to the revised penalty clause, the copy of which is available with Express, the highest punishment fixed is for tampering of answer scripts — fine of `25,000 and debarring from taking three examinations, including the one in which the student is involved in malpractice.
Speaking to Express, Dr S Sachidanand, Registrar, Evaluation, said, “Following the recent cases of tampering of answer scripts, we have introduced it as one of the malpractices and fixed stringent punishment.”
As per the existing rules, those indulging in whatever crime/malpractice related to examinations had to appear before a committee which used to finalise the penalty amount.
The committee has no role to play under the revised norms and the university will follow the fixed punishment.
“The revised penalty/punishments will also cover the examinations concluded recently,” he said.
