Many cops are travelling in trains without valid tickets, Southern Railway tells TN police

CHENNAI: Southern Railwayhas written a letter to the Tamil Nadu police stating that a large number of police personnel on and off duty are travelling in first class and second class coaches of passenger trains and suburban trains without valid tickets.
Senior divisional commercial manager of Chennai Railway Division has written the letter addressed to the Tamil Nadu director general of police, Chennai city police commissioner and additional director general of police (Railways).
"A number of passenger complaints has been received in this regard. The police personnel are occupying the seats meant for bona fide passengers. When asked to produce ticket by the staff, they show their ID cards and continue the journey. Kindly instruct police personnel to possess a valid ticket when they undertake a journey," the letter stated.

"If police personnel are found to be travelling without tickets, they will be penalised as per railway rules,"it said.
