Getting police report for lost documents made easy

Upload identity proofs, download non-traceable certificate

The Tamil Nadu police have launched an online facility for the public to obtain ‘Lost Document Report’ without visiting police stations in case of losing important documents such as passport and driving licence.

Speaking to the media here on Thursday, Commissioner of Police Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal said that the public could easily download a system-generated LDR by uploading valid identity proofs instead of visiting police stations to get a non-traceable certificate for the lost documents.

According to the police, LDR can be obtained for the loss of passport, registration certificate (RC) for vehicles, driving licence, school or college certificates, and identity cards. It can be done by visiting the www.tnpolice.gov.in website and following the ‘Lost Document Report’ link.

Applicants have to upload a copy of a valid identity proof such as Aadhaar, PAN, passport, driving licence or voter’s identity card to generate LDR for the lost document. Following this, and providing other required information, an LDR would be generated with a ‘unique number.’ While the report can be downloaded and printed, a copy will also be sent to the email id provided.

Stating that the idea was to swiftly provide the LDR so that the affected persons could apply for duplicate copies of the documents with the relevant authorities, Mr. Aggarwal stressed that the police would not be conducting any inquiries or investigation into the loss. Highlighting that intentionally providing false information to the police was a punishable offence, he appealed to the public to use the facility only for genuine cases.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan said that it was the responsibility of the departments concerned to verify the genuineness of the cases before issuing duplicate copies.

A separate ‘Verify’ section has also been created on the portal for the authorities of various departments to verify the genuineness of the LDR through the ‘unique number.’ Mr. Manivannan also urged the public to utilise the recently-launched facility for the victims, accused, and insurance companies to download documents for road accident cases to facilitate the process of insurance claims.
