CHENNAI: The one-man Justice (retd) Arumughaswamy commission appointed by the state government to probe former chief minister J Jayalalithaa's death will form a medical committee to assist the investigation, said a senior official in the commission's office.

The commission, which is functioning from an office on the first floor of Kalas Mahal in Chepauk, has received 50 affidavits so far.

"The committee will comprise top doctors from government hospitals like Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital, Stanley Medical College Hospital and Government Royapettah Hospital. They will be analysing the medical reports. This is necessary since a lot of medical-related issues are likely to come up during the probe," the official said.

The committee has invited affidavits and information in written form till November 22. After going through the affidavits, it will decide whom to investigate during the hearing, he said. Advocate Niranjan Rajagopalan, a Madras high court advocate, will be its legal counsel, the official said.

Persons interested in giving information or resolving queries can also call the commission on 044-28513599 between 10am and 6pm, the official said.

Asked about reports that 15 people have been issued summons by the commission, the official said he was not aware of the names.

The hearing will be open to the public and will take place at Kalas Mahal.
