Audit of Annamalai varsity accounts sought

CHENNAI, OCTOBER 12, 2018 00:00 IST

The Doctors’ Association for Social Equality has called for an audit of the accounts of Annamalai University and its medical and dental colleges by the Comptroller Auditor General.

The association has said though the University was started with government funds in 1928 and subsequently became a private university, it was taken over by the government in 2013, when it was struggling financially. The government made no move to reduce medical and dental course fees, the association pointed out.

The University charges higher than the prescribed fees for self-financing colleges, said G.R. Ravindranath, the association’s general secretary.

The university had ignored the fee fixation committee’s call to audit its accounts and instead pressured parents into paying the fees, he said.
