Man jailed for not paying maintenance

A family court sentenced a 45-year-old man to four years of jail on Monday for not paying maintenance to his parents.
Kantibhai Solanki, a sweeper who lives with his parents , was sent to jail for 1,545 days for not paying the court-ordered amount to his parents — Jashumatiben, 68, and Ranchhodbhai Solanki, 69 — in 2013. Solanki will have to undergo 735 days of imprisonment for not paying ₹900 every month to his mother for 24 months and then spend 810 more days in jail for not paying an equal monthly maintenance amount to his father for 30 months.
In 2013, the court had ordered Kantibhai to pay ₹900 to each of his parents, but he defaulted on various occasions and then stopped payments.
