Body placed at IAS academy for homage
After postmortem, the body was placed at the IAS academy for the public to pay homage. As news of the death spread, students put out a message saying, “We deeply regret to inform the sad demise of our pillar of strength Shankar Sir. He was more than a teacher, he was the institution himself. He was an inspiration to so many who had the IAS dream. He led everyone of us and to think of the forthcoming days without sir is indeed very difficult. You will continue to live in all of us.” “He was a knowledgeable person and a mentor for lots of civil service aspirants,” said Vaishnavi, an aspirant.
A native of Krishnagiri, he started Shankar IAS Academy in Anna Nagar in 2004 after his attempts to succeed in civil services failed. He even mentored his sister who is now an IAS officer.
C Sylendra Babu, ADGP (railways), who witnessed Shankaran’s rise since the beginning, said he had reversed the trend of civil services aspirants going to Delhi for preparation by setting up an institute here. “He had so far produced nearly 900 successful candidates. His demise is a great loss. He offered free coaching to students who could not afford to pay fees.”
Several IPS and IAS officials paid homage to him. Nakheeran editor R Gopal, MLA Karunaas and actor Soori where among those who expressed shock at the demise.
