Soil test conducted at site for AIIMS

Chennai:06.10.2018  TOI

Soil tests and soil survey are being conducted by HLL Infra Tech Services Limited at the proposed site for All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Thoppur, Madurai, health minister C Vijayabaskar said here on Friday. Work on the proposed ₹1,264-crore project has not been stalled or slowed down, he said, quoting a letter from Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana director Dr Sanjay Roy to state health secretary J Radhakrishnan on Thursday. Vijaya Baskar and senior health official will be meeting union health minister JP Nadda in New Delhi to discuss the project, he said.

Last week, an activist released a copy of the RTI reply from the Centre date September 28 which said no clearance has been obtained from the union cabinet and expenditure finance committee for establishing the institute at Thoppur.

On Monday, Radhakrishnan wrote to the centre seeking an update on the status quoting the RTI reply. On Thursday, chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said the state will put pressure on the centre to ensure Madurai gets the institution. On Friday, PMSSY director Roy in his reply said the site at Thoppur has been approved for AIIMS. Stating that the interpretation of the RTI reply was incorrect, he said the file for the project was submitted for seeking executive finance committee approval. TNN
