BENGALURU: The trifurcation of Bangalore University into Bangalore University, Bangalore Central Unviersity and Bangalore North University has left the parent university financially poor.
As per a copy of the order on the distribution of colleges which is available with Express, Bangalore University has 255 colleges of which 18 are government, 10 are aided and the remaining are private unaided colleges.Speaking to Express, a senior official from Bangalore University said, “Though there are more private unaided colleges under our jurisdiction, most are below average and we cannot expect revenue from them.” According to university officials, affiliation and examination fee are two major sources of revenue. “We can’t expect revenue from these colleges, and we will be forced to depend on state government’s fund,” said the official.
However, the varsity authorities have decided to wait till the distribution of human resources among the three varsities. Once the entire distribution process is completed, the university will invite applications for fresh affiliation. “We will invite applications for fresh affiliation and if we get applications, and if they meet our norms, we will approve new colleges,” the official added.
Meanwhile, Bangalore University has also been asked to transfer the affiliation fee collected from the colleges to the two new universities. “This year, the affiliation and renewal of affiliation was done by Bangalore University. As the colleges have been alloted to the new universities, we have to divide the revenue generated from the affiliation fees. We will keep the service charges and the rest will be transferred,” the official said.
