"Presently public Wi-Fi hotspots have been installed in important tourist locations like the shore temple at Mamallapuram, Madurai Meenakshi Temple and Kailasanathar temple in Kancheepuram to provide Wi-Fi access for tourists," said a release from BSNL.

The free Wi-Fi at Ammanur village in Kancheepuram was sponsored by DMK Rajya Sabha member R S Bharathi under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLAD) scheme.

"The Wi-Fi is provided in partnership with Quadgen Wireless Solutions, who are the hotspot service provider managing the same, along with BSNL in Tamil Nadu and other regions in southern and western India," said the release.

The Wi-Fi is expected to transform Ammanur into a digital village in the state, bringing in financial inclusion by integrating banking on mobile and mobile wallet payment methods. Bharathi inaugurated the service at Ammanur.
