Computer with pensioners' database goes missing from police HQ; attender held

Bengaluru, DHNS Feb 11 2018, 0:27 IST

A computer containing the database of pensions and provident fund details of the police department was among the computer accessories stolen from the state police headquarters on February 6

The Halasuru Gate police, who registered a case, arrested an attender, Srinivas, for the theft and recovered the items. The computer with a keyboard and mouse was in the fourth floor of the headquarters where the clerical section is located.

In a complaint filed by Public Relations Officer in-charge Narasimhamurthy, a first division assistant Sampakka Kannamma found the systems intact at 7.15 pm on Tuesday. The theft is believed to have happened after Sampakka locked the office and went home.

Narasimhamurthy said the computer had no confidential files. The police also did not see any evidence of forced entry.

A special team probing the theft questioned the clerical staff and maintenance and security personnel before swooping down on Srinivas.

This is not the first instance of items getting stolen from the DG-IGP's office.

Last April, a 22-inch LED television set, installed outside the conference hall on the seventh floor, went missing. The Halasuru Gate police was not successful in cracking that case.
