NIRF cancels ranking of Trichy college

Trichy:09.10.2018
Months after declaring Bishop Heber College (BHC) of Trichy the third best in the country among arts and science colleges, the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) has withdrawn its ranking after an error was found in the data submission process.
The college had not submitted details of its self-financing programmes, including student and faculty strength, unlike other colleges. This helped the institution gain an advantage over others. TOI had earlier reported the irregularity after assessing the data submitted by BHC on the NIRF website. It was found that BHC had showed total student strength as 2,086, putting together UG and PG for the year 2016-17. However, the college had total student strength of 9,088 as per its internal quality assurance report for 2016-17.
Many of the staff in the self-financing courses of the college do not have PhD nor have they cleared NET or SLET as mandated by the UGC.
