VC postings: Stalin seeks appointment with TN governor

DMK president M K Stalin has sought an appointment with Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit to discuss corruption in the higher education department. Speaking to reporters at the DMK headquarters here on Monday, Stalin said, “Since the governor has said there is corruption, we want to meet him and ask him to take action against people involved in taking bribes for VC appointments.”
At a function in Chennai on Saturday, the governor said crores of rupees had changed hands in the past for appointment of vicechancellors of universities.
“What the governor said in public is worrisome. It is not a joke. Once we get an appointment with the governor, we will explain to him the need to move fast against those involved in corruption,” said Stalin.
Asked about the Election Commission not announcing the date for the byelections in Tiruvarur and Tirupparankundram constituencies, Stalin, referring to the state CS’s letter to the EC asking the commission not to hold bypolls now, said, “The chief secretary is acting like a propaganda secretary of the AIADMK”.
