AHMEDABAD : Medical Council of India (MCI) has issued a circular to all colleges that are either awaiting renewal or have applied for affiliation to send a staff profile in advance for its perusal. The apex body has also clarified that only surprise checks would be conducted and staff found present would be considered the full and final strength.
It needs mention that medical colleges are known to inflate staff strength at the last minute during inspection by officiating transfers or showing certain staff on paper saying they are currently on leave. MCI used to specify dates during which medical inspections would happen at colleges.
Currently, MCI inspection is expected at a string of colleges in Gujarat especially at the Himmatnagar Government Medical College which has sought permission from MCI. Jamnagar College has applied for its intake to be increased from 180 to 200 seats. Similarly, Bhavnagar and Rajkot Medical Colleges have applied for increase in intake from 100 to 150 seats.
