It is the season of placements and everyone is watching out for the companies hiring the most number of students and offering the maximum compensation.
This year, SRM University, Kattankulathur, saw three major IT firms offering jobs to 3,689 students on the first day of campus interview sessions.
Speaking to mediapersons, president of SRM University and managing director of SRM Group of Institutions P. Sathyanayaranan said that Cognizant, Infosys and Wipro had together offered this record number of placements for the batch of 2015. “While Cognizant made 1,502 job offers, Infosys offered 1,105 and Wipro, 1,082. All these placements were offered in a single day of the campus recruitment drive that began a couple of days ago,” he added. The salary packet ranged from Rs. 3 lakh to Rs. 3.5 lakh.
Mr. Sathyanarayanan said Works Applications, a Japanese company, offered the highest annual package of Rs. 5 million Japanese Yen (Rs. 33 lakh approximately) for a computer science final-year student, Abhishek Gupta.
“Students from ECE, CSE and IT branches were the most sought after candidates by these IT firms,” said S. Ganapthy, dean-placement.
Viswanathan Venkatasubramanian, senior manager, Wipro, said the quality of recruits had improved, thanks to the efforts of the career development centre of the varsity.
